One Dead, Others Hurt in Arizona Plane Crash

One person was killed and five others sustained injuries on Saturday when a small plane on a sightseeing tour crashed roughly 500 feet from an airport runway in northern Arizona. The fatal crash happened in Page, the center of a tourist area roughly 200 miles outside of Phoenix.

Authorities say the pilot of the Cessna 207 was attempting to land amid windy conditions when the plane crashed just short of the runway and flipped upside down. Seven people, including the pilot, were aboard the plane. All of the passengers were French tourists, according to the Associated Press.

One passenger died after being rushed to a nearby hospital, while another is currently listed in stable condition at Flagstaff Medical Center. Four other people, including the pilot, sustained minor injuries. The seventh person aboard the plane somehow managed to avoid injury altogether.

So far, authorities have not released any word on what caused the fatal crash. An investigation is underway.
