Prominent Minister Among Nine Dead in Bahamas Plane Crash

Grand Bahama, Bahamas

A prominent minister and his wife are among the nine confirmed dead after a private plane went down in the Bahamas late Sunday afternoon. The plane went down at around 5:00 p.m. during its approach to Grand Bahama Airport.

Dr. Myles Munroe, best known as the founder of Bahamas Faith Ministries (BFM), was traveling with eight others aboard a Lear 36 Executive Jet. He was on his way to the 2014 Global Leadership Forum.

According to Tribune 242, severe weather likely played a role in the crash. The jet reportedly collided with a crane before exploding in midair and crashing into a dumpsite. Everyone on the ill-fated plane was killed instantly. Though the identities of the deceased have not officially been released, media reports have indicated that Munroe and his wife Ruth are among the victims of this tragedy. It has also been reported that BFM Vice President, Dr. Richard Pinder was also on the plane, as was BFM Pastor Lavard Parks, his wife Rudel and their young son Johannan.

Many who are in Grand Bahama for the conference were shaken by the news of the crash. Conference leaders have decided to go forward with the event, which starts on Monday.

An investigation into Sunday's crash will be handled by the Department of Civil Aviation.
