Our firm recently took a helicopter air ambulance case to trial and changed aviation law in the process. The case involved a helicopter picking up a girl seriously injured in a car accident. While the helicopter air ambulance was transporting the victim to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, the tail rotor cracked and the helicopter crashed in Griffith Park. Three paramedics and the injured girl were killed. Although the helicopter company knew previously of the rotor problem and in turn told the military to change all of the helicopters, civil aviation was not notified.
