American Airlines Flight 1420 — On June 1, 1999, American Airlines Flight 1420 overran the runway at Little Rock, Arkansas during a thunderstorm and crashed. Failure to acknowledge and respond to wind shear alerts as well as pilot error contributed to the crash. The airport was also cited for failure to comply with airport safety standards. Ten passengers and the pilot perished in the crash. The crash also caused serious injury to 45 other people aboard the plane, including the copilot.
